The United Medical Nursing Center (UMNC) is a licensed full-service 120 bed skilled nursing facility that is embedded within NFPHC. It occupies two floors and services our residents in a spacious and attractive environment. The services include but are not limited to wound care management, cardiovascular, pulmonary, general medical and rehabilitative services. The clinical needs are addressed and managed by credentialed physicians and nurses. Our services offer hospitals in the Greater Washington area and medically complex patients an opportunity to transition their patients into an environment where the established plan of care is provided on an extended basis for the life of the resident.

Admissions

The Nursing Center provides comprehensive nursing care and medical services. Social and Therapeutic Recreational Activities are provided on a regular basis, as are other specialized services.

Social Services

Social Services will assist family and residents during their stay at UMNC. A Social Worker is assigned to each resident and the Social Worker and/or the Resident Care Coordinator will answer any questions, assist with problems and offer referrals when necessary. Should the assigned Social Worker be unavailable please leave a voice message at (202) 574 – 7122 and or contact the nurses’ station at (202) 574 - 6572/3.

Social Workers are knowledgeable and work closely with the interdisciplinary team members in disciplines such as Nursing, Rehabilitation, Dietary, Finance, Therapeutic Recreation and Administration regarding the provision of total care. The Social Services Department maintains a complete list of health and other community services. In consultation with the attending physician, the Social Worker will assist in planning transfers or discharges to Resident/Family home or to another facility.

Nursing Services

Nursing, the largest department in the facility, is staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, with licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants. The Nursing Department is committed to maintaining a high quality of care for each resident.

A multi-disciplinary resident care planning conference is held regularly for each resident to ensure care is based on individual needs. Residents and/or families are invited to participate in care planning conferences. The Resident Care Coordinator or assigned Social Worker will have information about the next scheduled conference.

Visitors

Visiting hours are daily from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. Visitors should sign in at the Security Desk with time and name of resident being visited and wear a visitor’s identification badge. When arriving on the unit, please sign the visitor’s log as well. Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult. After hours visitation is permissible if the request is submitted in writing to the Administrator for approval. Please submit these requests to room 245.

Volunteer Services

Volunteers play an important role in the residents’ quality of life at UMNC. Family members and friends are encouraged to volunteer their time to work with Nursing and the Therapeutic Recreation staff. Help is always needed with transporting residents to and from activities; sponsoring unit parties; chaperoning trips outside the facility; arranging for churches to provide spiritual leadership; and much more.
