July 5, 2016 – Washington, D.C. – Andrew L. Davis, interim CEO at United Medical Center (UMC), will be leaving the position effective July 15, to pursue permanent opportunities.  Davis began his tenure with UMC on July 17, 2015.

“Mr. Davis provided strong leadership during his tenure,” said Chris Gardiner, Chairman of the Board of Directors for UMC.  “He worked very closely with UMC’s Medical Staff and was committed to informing local community leaders and civic organizations about the hospital to help broaden their understanding of the high quality health care services provided at the hospital for people who live in Ward 7, Ward 8, and southern Prince George’s County.”

In conjunction with the District of Columbia Government, Veritas of Washington, LLC, a healthcare management, advisory, and consulting firm was hired by the United Medical Center Board of Directors in April of this year, to assist in developing a short and long-range strategic plan for the hospital.  With the departure of Mr. Davis, Luis Hernandez, a member of the Veritas senior management team, will become the new CEO of United Medical Center.

Mr. Hernandez is a veteran health care administrator with over 30 years of senior management experience, of which the last 20 years have been as Chief Executive Officer or Administrator including assignments with hospitals in Atlanta, Georgia; Queens, New York; and Mexico City, Mexico.

“Mr. Hernandez and the Veritas team are focused exclusively on health care, with a special emphasis on hospitals and health care systems in urban markets,” said Gardiner.  “We look forward to the expertise they will bring in managing and improving the operations of United Medical Center.”
